Selenium is a micronutrient that is present in nature. Foodstuffs with the highest selenium content are protein-based foods, such as fish, meat, milk and dairy products, cereal, fruit and vegetables. The recommended dose is 55 mcg a day, which can reach 60-70 mcg during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Selenium is mainly recommended for its antioxidant action, which is synergistic with that of vitamin E with which it also contributes to strengthen skin protection against UVB radiation.

Many studies document that selenium contributes towards normal male fertility by improving seminal quality (number and motility of spermatozoa) and by favouring testosterone secretion.

Moreover, this micronutrient is involved in the production of white blood cells, thus ensuring normal immune system function.
