Pleurotus Bio

Pleurotus is a mushroom that is common in Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. In the Sung dynasty (420-479 a.C.) it was called Celestial Flower Mushroom. Characterised by a wide oyster-shaped cap with 20 cm diameter and a short leg, it is also called Wood Ear Mushroom, while in China it is known as Ping Gu, or Flat Mushroom.

It is a very common mushroom, considering its easy cultivation, both in domestic and industrial settings, and is highly appreciated for culinary creations.

Pleurotus is a mushroom with a high content of fibre, which reduces intestinal absorption of sugars and fats, and of lovastatin, which actively prevents the formation of bad cholesterol. Studies have also reported that it alleviates chronic inflammatory pain. It contributes to modulate the immune system’s response, and favours the growth of microorganisms that actively maintain colon health.

With its nicotinic acid content, Pleurotus stimulates the production of antioxidant enzymes that, besides defending the body from the harmful effects of free radicals, are particularly effective in protecting the liver.
