Lutein and zeaxanthin (from Tagetes erecta L.) and beta-carotene (from Dunaliella salina): Lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene are carotenoids that are found in the macula lutea, the central region of the retina that controls visual acuity. They have a protective role against damage caused by blue light, cataract and senile macular degeneration.

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.): rich in anthocyanins, bilberry supports eyesight and is useful for tired eyes and poor night vision.

Vitamin D: its presence in the eye is mainly required because ocular tissue contains the receptor for this vitamin.

Vitamin E: antioxidant, whose deficiency is observed in case of   retinal and macular degeneration.

Vitamin C: it is found in high concentrations in all ocular tissues, particularly in the lens, in aqueous humour and in the neural retina.

Riboflavin (vitamin B2): its deficiency is associated with photophobia and tearing.

Zinc: selectively concentrated in the eye, it participates in adjusting rhodopsin’s reaction to light.

Copper: micronutrient,an important antioxidant for blood vessel maintenance.

Chromium: micronutrient with antioxidant action, it favours proper absorption of nutrients by controlling carbohydrate metabolism, with positive effects on ocular health.

Bioflavonoids (rutin, quercetin and oligomeric proanthocyanidins): they contribute to control ocular tiredness by improving retinal and ocular circulation structures.

Selenium: necessary for the proper function of glutathione peroxidase, an important antioxidant.

L-glutathione: antioxidant that eliminates toxic agents. It is present in high concentrations in the lens, in photoreceptors and in retinal epithelial pigments.

NAC: necessary to regenerate glutathione reserves, it can reduce apoptosis in the eye.

L-taurine:free amino acid that is particularly abundant in the retina.

L-carnosine:  antioxidant and anti-ageing agent.

Ginkgo biloba: its action on blood circulation can have protective effects on the eye.
