Iron Active

Iron is the main component of hemoglobin, a protein that transports oxygen from the lungs to the entire body. This mineral is also part of myoglobin, a protein that transports and stores oxygen specifically in muscles.

According to some estimates, anemia affects approximately 1.62 billion people worldwide, about 25% of the global population. This is also due to the fact that the amount of iron absorbed is generally lower than the amount ingested (ranging from 5% to 35%). 

Iron absorption depends heavily on the body's specific needs, the chemical form of iron ingested, and the presence of other elements that can enhance or inhibit absorption. Specifically, vitamin C has been shown to counteract the negative effects of major inhibitors of iron absorption, including calcium and milk proteins, phytic acid, polyphenols, and soy products.

Additionally, ferric pyrophosphate offers improved stomach tolerance, reducing the risk of gastric irritation and side effects such as nausea and cramps.

Micronized and microencapsulated iron is beneficial for improving absorption, particularly in at-risk populations such as women of childbearing age. Thanks to its greater absorption surface and better gastric tolerance, it is ideal for preventing or treating iron deficiencies, which are common during the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. In fact, according to WHO data, 23% of pregnant women in industrialized countries are anemic.
