The main source of chitosan in nature is chitin, a substance that is present in the hexoskeleton of marine crustaceans. It can be found in lesser concentrations in the cell wall of manymushrooms.

The discovery of this substance’s lipid absorbing effects and of its potential contribution towards weight loss, which was later confirmed by studies on humans, dates back to 1970.

The particular electrochemical reactivity of chitosan can promote the formation of a mesh-like structure that can capture fat.

In the stomach and intestine this activity makes chitosan bind the fats taken with diet. Trapped, they cross the food canal without undergoing transformations (hence, without providing calories), and are finally eliminated with stools.

This action has beneficial effects on body weight control, even in reducing cholesterol levels in plasma.

Chitosan contained in this product is highly purified (over 95% of deacetylation), obtained from the shell of North Atlantic shrimp.

Chitosan: polysaccharide derived from chitin, a polymer that makes the shell shield of crustaceans hard. It is also present in the composition of certain mushrooms.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): one of the most important vitamins for our body, which is unable to synthesise it; hence the need for its dietary intake. Moreover, it does not build up in the body, and must be taken regularly to maintain constant blood levels.
