Astragalus is an annual leguminous plant that lives in the dry zones of Mongolia, China, Siberia, Korea and Japan. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties.

Astragalus is especially known for its immunostimulating properties, which are documented by many studies.

As all adaptogenic plants, this plant can be considered an adjuvant for chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), an increasingly common disorder that can perhaps be attributed to a retrovirus, whose methods of contagion have still not been established.

Another recently observed effect of astragalus, which is currently being verified, concerns the possible blood glucose reducing property that might be used to restore glycaemic balance.
